Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan has been named in the Black Stars team for today’s [Friday] must-win game against Algeria in the 2015 African Cup of Nations.
The forward missed Ghana’s loss to Senegal in last Monday’s group opener, but returns to lead the team after recovering from a ‘mild case of malaria.’
He will now partner Jordan Ayew up front as the Black Stars go in search of the win that will keep them in the tournament.
Gyan is one of only two changes made by Head Coach Avram Grant, following the loss to the Teranga Lions, with Afriyie-Acquah replacing Rabiu Mohammed in midfield.
Udinese’s Agyeman Badu keeps his place in the team despite calls from fans and sports analysts for him to be dropped after what they describe as a below-par performance from him on Monday.
Grant also retains his backline with goalkeeper Razak Braimah, keeping his place in goal after a good performance during the loss.
The game kicks off at 16:00 GMT in Mongomo
Black Stars XI:
Razak Brimah, Harrison Afful, Baba Rahman, Jonathan Mensah, Daniel Amartey, Afriyie Acquah, Agyemang Badu, Christian Atsu, Andre Ayew, Jordan Ayew, Asamoah Gyan
