The Krachi West District Hospital in the Volta Region, has launched a new health infrastructure fund which is expected to help deal with the many health challenges in the district.

The fund is expected to generate revenue from citizens and corporate bodies.

[contextly_sidebar id=”cy1zHQbz2va6pgF9lVWAcJjWU64VArtX”]Speaking to Citi News, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr. Hilarius Arbiwu, said the fund will only augment the support the facility receives from government.

Dr. Arbiwu explained that the funding of healthcare comes from both government mostly for infrastructure, and the hospitals themselves who fund the materials used on daily basis.

“The funding of healthcare in the country is scheduled along two lines. The first part of the responsibility is that of Government and that is investment into infrastructure and equipment. The other materials we use on daily basis for service delivery are supposed to be borne by hospital.”

He however noted that funding from government for infrastructure was proving to be inadequate hence the need to generate funds internally as a supplement.

“…But then we have gotten to a point where we need much more heavy investment into infrastructure so we thought that it was no longer sustainable to use internally generated funds so we decided to launch a fund to try and mobilize funds to invest into the infrastructure.”
