Foreign Affairs Minister and incumbent Member of Parliament for Awutu Senya West in the Central Region, Hanna Tetteh, has overwhelmingly beaten one Captain Owiredu Asuako, in the NDC’s parliamentary primaries, pitting her against the NPP’s George Andah in the 2016 elections.
[contextly_sidebar id=”7QvnnF07NNMDyMfl32o4fbY75Cdo85wY”] Prior to the polls, Captain Owiredu, who claims he is more on the ground than Hannah Tetteh, was tipped to give her a good run for her money.
But certified results from the polls have proven Madam Hanna Tetteh’s grip on the constituency in an expanded electoral college that gave more NDC members the chance to express their franchise.
Captain Owiredu polled a meagre 101 votes representing 2.4% of the total votes cast.
Hanna Tetteh convincingly won with 4,129 representing 97.55% of the total votes cast.
Captain Owiredu was prior to the elections in 2008 a campaign manager for Hanna Tetteh, but decided to contest against her this time around.
He had mostly trumpeted on the campaign message that Madam Hanna Tetteh was not in touch with the constituents and that she related poorly with the people.
But that obviously did not work against Hanna Tetteh who is known to have spearheaded massive development projects in the constituency.
Nearly two million party members voted on Saturday, to elect parliamentary candidates and endorse President Mahama’s candidature for 2016.
Voting has generally been smooth except for nearly twenty constituencies where voting was suspended and scheduled for Sunday November 22, due to disagreements and irregularities with the voters’ register.
Some 728 aspirants are contesting in the race.
