A communicator of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Suame constituency of the Ashanti Region, Brogya Gyamfi, will face the Minority Leader in Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah-Bonsu in the 2016 general elections.
Provisional figures from the NDC’s parliamentary primaries held nationwide today [Saturday], puts Mr. Gyamfi ahead of his contender, Francis Dodovi, a journalist.
Mr. Gyamfi, a vociferous member of the party in the Ashanti Region, had 685 votes while Francis Dodovi came close with 625.
Twenty-three votes were rejected.
Mr. Gyamfi will indeed face an uphill task against an experienced politician in a constituency traditionally known to be a safe seat for the NPP.
Nearly two million party members voted on Saturday, to elect parliamentary candidates and endorse President Mahama’s candidature for 2016.
Voting has generally been smooth except for nearly twenty constituencies where voting was suspended and scheduled for Sunday November 22, due to disagreements and irregularities with the voters’ register.
Some 728 aspirants are contesting in the race.
