Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon in the Greater Accra Region, Emmanuel Agyarko, believes the suspension of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) National Chairman, Paul Afoko, will deepen seeming tensions within the party.

Afoko was indefinitely suspended last Friday after the National Executive Committee (NEC) upheld a decision by the disciplinary committee.

[contextly_sidebar id=”t9HBC58V1XpAzKVq0tAhdQ7WsY4k53h1″]But the NPP MP described his suspension as unnecessary.

“Our people were beginning to become extremely hopeful so my personal consideration was that, I don’t think this was necessary at all. I think that the strategy of containment was working reasonably well. We should have been given a chance to continue. This opens up new wounds.I am saying that even if there were some issues, they were beginning to calm down, you do not go back and raise the tempest in the sea.”

He wondered why Afoko had been singled out when other party executives including Kwabena Agyepong and Freddie Blay had also been fingered in the matter.

“When you want to talk about people that have spoken and even the bad press, it is said that apart from him, Kwabena Agyepong was one, it is said that Freddie Blay was another, it is said that Abankwah was one; so why do you single him out?” he quizzed.

Mr. Agyarko further denied claims that Paul Afoko had refused to attend or organise NEC meetings despite several calls for him to do so.
