A task force has been formed in Bawku to monitor and supervise the district assembly and unit committee level elections in the Bawku Municipal and its environs.
The task force is consists of the Ghana Police Service, Ghana Army, Ghana Prison Service, Ghana Fire Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Bureau of National Investigations (BNI), Customs, Electoral Commission and the Information Service.
[contextly_sidebar id=”131QmwCVznB5W0eZYpCgqOUf7EX2pywb”]It would work in collaboration with the Bawku Municipal Security Committee (MUSEC) to provide adequate security for the election and ensure that the election was conducted in a constitutional manner.
It would also deploy security personnel to all polling stations and some hot spots in the municipality to maintain law and order tension during and after the elections.
Chairman for the Task Force, Chief Superintendent of Police, Lovelace Kaletse Tefutor, assured of the Task Force’s commitment to ensuring violence-free election, since it would create an enabling environment for the people of Bawku to exercise their franchise.
Mr Tefutor advised the youth of the area to behave responsibly and avoid being incited by politicians who would lead them into trouble.
He charged them to be each other’s keeper and not allow irresponsible leaders to mislead them to cause chaos and mayhem that would jeopardize the peace in the municipality.
Mr Issaku Bukari, the Bawku Municipal Chief Executive and Chairman of MUSEC, charged the Task Force to be more vigilant on the ground to avert any disturbance.
He called on the people to exercise their franchise effectively since it was their right to choose the right persons to represent them at the district level.
Mr Kofi Asante-Owusu, the Municipal Electoral Officer, disclosed that 99 candidates were contesting in 115 polling stations in Bawku, 71 in 71polling stations in Binduri, while 66 in 66 polling stations in the Pusiga districts.
Mr Asante-Owusu said all electoral materials and personnel were set for the elections and all eligible voters would be expected to cast their votes on September.
