[contextly_sidebar id=”PNka9eG4E3YM11u6dZOoRxxailY6GD1T”]John Mahama, who enjoyed massive support from Bukom Banku especially during the 2012 and 2016 election campaign periods, wished Bukom Banku good luck for his future bout.

While declaring the two fighters as “winners” of the night, John Mahama said he believes the Bukom Boxing Arena which he commissioned in the dying days of his administration in November 2016, will become an “incubator for the next generation of Ghanaian boxing champions.”

“Great night of boxing at the Bukom Boxing Arena yesterday [Saturday]. The patronage, entertainment and competitive spirit fulfills the purpose for which the facility was built. Congrats to winner Bastie, and better luck next time to my friend and brother Braimah Kamoko aka Bukom Banku. Both boxers were winners last night. I’m convinced that the Bukom Arena will become the incubator for the next generation of Ghanaian boxing champions,” John Mahama said in a Facebook post.

Bastie Samir emerged as a ‘new boxing hero’ after humiliating Bukom Banku who has nicknamed himself as the “African Mayweather.”

Samir, an undefeated former captain of Ghana’s amateur boxing team, ended Bukom Banku’s 28-0-0 unbeaten record on the exciting boxing night, that drew thousands of enthusiasts including former boxing champions, Ike Quartey and Azumah Nelson.

Ahead of the much-anticipated bout, Bukom Banku vowed to knock Bastie out in the 6th Round, and said he was going to force him into a coma on the night, but that was not meant to be.

Meanwhile, Bastie Samir has thrown a challenge to Bukom Banku that he is ready to face him again if he [Bukom Banku] asks for a re-match.

Samuel Anim Addo, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BabyJet Promotions, has said that the arrival of American Legendary boxer, Floyd Mayweather Jr. to Ghana would have a positive impact on the nation’s brand.

The undefeated pound for pound boxing legend would visit Ghana for the first time on June 15, 2017.

In an interview with GNA sports, Mr. Anim Addo said “Floyd Mayweather’s arrival would have a positive impact on ‘brand Ghana’, people should forget about the amount of money involved. He might even spend more money than what he has taken from us before he leaves the country.”

“He spent over 1 million dollars when he visited South Africa, and it is likely that he would spend more in Ghana. I would urge all Ghanaians to be a part of this event as we sell Ghana to the world, we should all embrace it and push Ghana to the level she deserves”.

“BabyJet promotions are proud to be part of this event, made possible by Upscale Entertainment. We know they have taken the risk to pay a huge sum of money to bring Floyd Mayweather to Ghana and we appreciate their efforts”, said Anim Addo

As part of the activities lined up for the visit dubbed ‘Undefeated Tour’, Floyd Mayweather Jr would be present at the Bukom Arena to witness some boxing bouts on June 16th 2017. According to Mr. Anim Addo, BabyJet Promotions are ready to present worth-watching bouts for Mayweather.

“On 16th June, BabyJet Promotions would give Floyd Mayweather Jr something special at the Bukom Arena, we have done it before, and we will do it again, as we resurrected Ghana Boxing, when we matched two bitter rivals, Emmanuel Tagoe and George Ashie at the Accra Sports Stadium.

“It is not going to be different this year, especially in the presence of one of the all-time best athletes in the World.”

“There would be other Amateur bouts to support the event. Floyd Mayweather has got the eye to scout talented boxers and we are hopeful that our young boxers would give him a good impression of Ghana Boxing”,  Anim Addo said.

Battling in a literal gym in Moscow, top lightweights Denis Shafikov and Richard Commey slugged it out for twelve entertaining rounds earlier today, going blow-for-blow in what was essentially one protracted close-range exchange.

Despite his foe’s notorious knockout prowess, it was Shafikov who came out on top via split decision.

Shafikov (38-2-1, 20 KO) used relentless pressure, high volume, and ridiculous durability to consistently force Commey (24-2, 22 KO) to the ropes and open up with hard left hands.

Commey landed his fair share of solid punches, but never managed to budge the aggressive Russian and ate several solid body shots and booming lefts to the head along the way.

Two judges ultimately sided with Shafikov’s aggressive onslaught, giving him 115-113 and 116-112 scores to overrule a 112-116 the other way.

Shafikov is now the mandatory challenger for Robert Easter Jr.’s IBF title, which he won by scraping past Commey in September.

That fight, should it materialize, ought to be loads of fun.

Former IBF Bantamweight Champion Joseph Agbeko will take to the ring on Friday, October 14 after a lengthy lay off against Tanzanian opponent Haji Juma at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Organizers of the bout Fresh Kings Entertainment have endured a torrid time attempting to put the fight together due to venue and some structural issues but have finally managed to pull it off.

The bout which will see Agbeko return to the ring since his last bout against Juanito Rubillar in May 2015 will also be used as a platform to advocate for peace during the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

Agbeko who has been training at the Bridge Boxing Gym says he is feeling good ahead of the bout despite his prolonged absence. “I have been working very hard with my trainer because I understand how important this fight is.

“My fitness is where I want it to be because my coach has been working on me.

“This is one of the bouts I must win in order to be ready for the championship bout and due to that I am taking it very seriously.

“Ghanaians should be ready because I am going to give them a convincing victory,” he told Citi Sports.

Agbeko’s record currently stands at 30 wins and 5 defeats with 23 of the wins coming by way of knock out, including his landmark win against Luis Alberto Perez which won him the IBF bantamweight crown in 2007. Juma his opponent has recorded 16 wins to go with 8 defeats and five draws.

Fatherhood is a skill that should be nurtured – Charles Buckman https://citifmonline.com/2014/06/fatherhood-is-a-skill-that-should-be-nurtured-charles-buckman/ Thu, 12 Jun 2014 15:55:51 +0000 http://4cd.e16.myftpupload.com/?p=24381 We use the noun ‘father’ on a regular basis, quite loosely, one might dare to say; but who is a father? We use the noun ‘father’ on a regular basis, quite loosely, one might dare to say; but who is a father?

Many might say that the concept is simple and overtly scientific, that a father is someone, who has a child which he helped a woman to conceive, via the fertilization of one of her eggs with one of his spermatozoa.

And many others, probably most people around the world, might argue that fatherhood supersedes what Science stipulates, in that a father is always there for his children, cheering them on in the game of life, advising them, based on his varied experiences, granting a shoulder for them to cry upon, when their hearts are troubled.

“Nobody  is taught to be a father,” Dr. Charles J. Buckman asserted in an interview with Jessica on the Traffic Avenue, in a celebratory run-up towards Fathers’ Day, which falls on Sunday, June 15th, this year.
“The [ability to father a child, successfully, is a skill that is acquired on the job.] You only learn to be a father by actually being a father.”

Dr. Buckman, an expert on and activist for effective parenting, listed the five pillars of fatherhood as being Faith, Family, Friends, Finances and Future.

He also said that a man’s Spouse is a plus to this list.

Furthermore,  Dr. Buckman maintains that a father’s role is to direct, to provide, to correct and to protect, based on the pillars of fatherhood.

“The saying goes that a family that prays together, stays together. Faith is [an invaluable tool in sustaining the father-child bond and it’s the father, who must lead in this regard,] as the head of the home,” advises Dr. Buckman.

“A father is tasked to choose his friends wisely. He should have supportive friends, who are ever willing to share parental experiences, friends who are interested in the well-being of your kids.”

Dr. Buckman went on to elaborate on the importance of finances in fatherhood:

” In order to provide education, shelter, food, toys, clothes and many other things for your children, you need money. So a father has to work hard; but you must also teach your kids about finances and get them to spend wisely and to develop a culture of saving, from a very early age. Let them understand the value of money and that it is hard work that produces it.”

Additionally, the activist and motivational speaker outlined the teachings of his book, “21 Ways to be a fabulous father”.  The first lesson of the piece encourages fathers to respect the mothers of their children.
“When fathers treat mothers badly, the frustrated mother most likely takes it out on the children,” he lamented.

Other lessons from his elaborate handbook-of-sorts encapsulate spending quality time with your children, leading your children by example, earning the right to be heard by your children, realizing that a father’s job is never done, and a host of others.

Dr. Buckman also urged fathers to use seasons of excitement, such as the 2014 World Cup tournament, to spend quality time with their children.

“Fathers need to be a present force in their children’s lives and [not a distant shadow]. Spend time with your kids, no matter how old they get, or [how many greys you grow].”

Dr. Buckman wrapped it all up with some news for every child, who has ever wondered why his or her father seems not to care:”And children, celebrate and appreciate your fathers, every day. You can begin with Fathers’ Day, this year. If your father feels needed in your life, then he will [make it a point to show up and stay forever].”
