Businessman and Chairman of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom has declared his support for the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) over the latter’s resistance to proposed amendments to the GIPC’s laws.

According to Dr. Nduom, the move has the likelihood to put local businesses at a disadvantage if not checked properly.

Citing some earlier assertions by the traders’ association for their stance, the 2016 Presidential Candidate for the Progressive People’s Party affirmed his support as,

“GUTA urged government to give a second thought and think of Ghanaians first.” – I SUPPORT GUTA!!

GUTA has for some time now expressed grave concern over the proposed amendments to Section 27 of the GIPC Act 865, which focuses on local enterprises.

The Greater Accra Regional Branch of GUTA in a statement emphasized the need for the President Nana Akufo Addo to stop the GIPC from going ahead with the move.

“We wish to tell the central government that if the GIPC goes ahead and make changes to Act 865 section 27 that seeks the protection of the Ghanaian trader, this is how the traders will react to the law if passed.”

Also, a statement signed by the Greater Regional Secretary of GUTA and copied to the Today Newspaper on Saturday, January 19, 2018 stressed that,

“The Greater Accra Regional branch of GUTA with the support of the trading public shall revolt against the government, if Mr. Yofi Grant is given the nod to make changes to the said section of the GIPC Act 865 section (27).”

The statement stressed that “We shall urge all traders by every means possible to protect their businesses else there will be no trading community for the indigenous Ghanaian “because businesses will be taken over by foreigners.”

The Greater Accra Regional branch of GUTA in the statement therefore, called on government to treat this issue with a posture of urgency when GIPC presents the redrafted Act 865 section 27 of the law.

It urged government to give a second thought and think of Ghanaians first.”

President of Groupe Nduom, and 2016 Flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has urged Ghanaians to patronize Made in Ghana goods, to encourage Ghanaian workers, as Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark this year’s May Day.

May Day is a public holiday usually celebrated on May 1, to recognise the contributions of workers to economies around the world.

[contextly_sidebar id=”RaT1ythBGzG7Rnf7H3PbrnSz6rsaztKZ”]In Ghana, thousands of workers, both in private and public sector, observed the day with  parades across the country, during which they drew government’s attention to pertinent issues affecting the Ghanaian worker.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo, later addressed the populace, and assured workers of better conditions of service, whiles urging them to work harder.

In a Facebook post today, Monday, May 1, 2017, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, a successful entrepreneur, believes such days will be meaningful when deliberate efforts are made to promote the interest of the Ghanaian worker.

Below is Dr. Nduom’s post on May Day

From 1 May 2016 to 1 May 2017 Where Are We?

On May 1 2016, I wrote this:

“MAKE A GHANAIAN WORKER HAPPY – BUY MADE IN GHANA TODAY

Imagine what would happen if we all bought ‘Made in Ghana’. There would be more jobs, bigger and more profitable companies, more tax revenue to government and our people would enjoy a higher quality of life. It seems simple, and it is.

We must make sure the school feeding and any such state sponsored program use food items grown and processed in Ghana. State-owned enterprises must only buy goods and services produced in the country but allowed to import on exceptional basis. At least 40% of major infrastructure contracts must go to indigenous companies.

Government must use its tax mandate to give a competitive edge to local goods and services. The state must check the abuse of free zone permits by companies who turn around to dump products in our local markets to the disadvantage of others.

This would require guts, staying power and a determination to fight off threats from those who represent external interests. ……….. Imagine what would happen on May Day 2017!”

So this is just a follow up. I am still on the same point. Where are we? What are we doing to make it necessary for everyone to buy Made In Ghana?

The Minister of Interior Ambrose Dery has called for a thorough investigation into circumstances surrounding Saturday evening’s fire outbreak at the Coconut Grove Hotel in Accra.

According to him, the enquiry will help unravel the truth about the incident that flattened about three business offices on the premises.

[contextly_sidebar id=”6bwQHWxWozkeNdJhjZFlJxVNAe2tWOsp”]Speaking to pressmen after arriving at the fire scene on Saturday to assess at first-hand happenings there, Ambrose Derry said the president, Nana Akufo-Addo had been made aware of the situation and he is very much interested in the report.

Many onlookers gathered around the hotel accused personnel of the Ghana National Fire Service of responding late to distress calls about the fire and also arrived with tenders without water.

But the Interior Minister said a full-scale investigation must be conducted to ensure a full understanding of all that happened before and during the incident.

“On Monday’s I expect a full investigation and a report on this matter. What I heard is that fire service came and ran short of water, portraying a hopeless situation. I’ll want an explanation to that. They’ve given me a preliminary explanation… There will certainly be an investigation. I’ll want to hear all the complaints and hear their reaction to that,” he said.

“On Monday’ I’ll be asking for a report… It is a disturbing trend that these fires come and we want to be sure that we are doing our best in terms of respect to the reaction of the Fire Service. I am quite clear that maybe we can do things better than we are doing now. I’ll like to find out what actually transpired and see what actually went wrong and what we can do to make things better,” he added.

A part of the hotel that houses Business Television Africa (BTA), Amansan TV (ATV), GN Bank and Gold Coast Securities was ravaged by fire around 4.30pm.grove-fire-42

It took the combined efforts of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and the Fire Department of the Ghana Air Force more than three hours to contain the fire.

Meanwhile, managers of the hotel have revealed that the inferno was sparked by fire from an air-conditioning facility at Amansan Television (ATV) which shares a compound with the hotel.

The 2016 Flagbearer of the Progressive People’s Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwasi Nduom, has said he has no regrets over the party’s loss in the 2016 presidential and parliamentary elections.

He is however confident of the party’s chances in future elections.

The PPP came third in the presidential elections with just 1% of the total valid votes cast, having contested the election for the second time since it was established.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Dr. Nduom said he is only saddened by the loss of some of his very hard working parliamentary candidates.

“There were so many people who worked very hard to spread the PPP message of change all over the country and my greatest sorrow and sadness has to do with those parliamentary candidates who could not win their seats even though they worked very hard….For the election I have really no regrets because I believe that we as a party did what we needed to do.”

“We got our message across, people worked hard, some volunteered money, time and effort and so there is nothing there as sadness in terms of our efforts, it is just the results that did not go they way we wanted. There are so many people who made me feel very confident about the future of this party,”he said.

PPP will be rewarded with victory in the future – Nduom

Dr. Nduom, a few days after the party’s loss, expressed optimism that Ghanaians will reward the party with victory in the country’s subsequent general elections.

He said although the party did not win the elections, it had demonstrated to Ghanaians that it was a peace-loving, disciplined and respectful party with great ideas and solutions for the country’s challenges.

Dr. Nduom noted that, the PPP will remain united and grow stronger ahead of the next general elections in 2020.

In a Facebook post, he said ” We will continue to be advocates for our unique non-negotiable policies because without them, the standard of living of our people, our quality of life and development will not improve significantly.”

Dr. Nduom who has made three attempts at the presidency, had said the 2016 elections would be his last attempt.

President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Groupe Nduom, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, has cut sod for the construction of a 100-tonne rice milling factory at Assin Breku in the Central Region.

The sod-cutting ceremony was well attended by traditional leaders, rice farmers, and hundreds of youth in the area, who are looking for job opportunities.

This follows the commissioning of the refurbished 72-tonne Worawora Rice Mill Factory in Worawora in the Volta Region on Tuesday.

The rice, to be knwon as Edwumawura Rice out, is expected to be out on sale in November, this year.

Addressing the chiefs and people of Assin Breku, Dr. Nduom recounted that he went to area to campaign for votes and heard complaints from the townsfolks, most of whom are rice farmers, that their rice was going to waste and needed help.

He explained that, he met with his managers and tailored a way to solve that challenge. Dr. Nduom decried the lack of development in the area, and added that, if the community works with him, they will get the social amenities they lack.

He disclosed that, farmers in other jurisdictions such as (Europe, Asia and America) are living well, and same could be replicated in the area within five years.

14883535_818430531631501_6014842177753687843_o

“Business will commence after completion of the mill in April 2017. After Easter, farmers won’t pound rice again. Machines will do that. Rice farmers will be given training to be able to cultivate good and high quality rice for milling” he said.

…If the business grows, combine harvesters will be brought in to replace manual harvesting by farmers. It is my hope that we can work steadily with other investors throughout the country to halt rice importation in 2020.”

The business mogul told the people that, the Worawora Rice Mill Factory is working and assured them same will happen in the area.

He thanked the chiefs for the land and his staff for their hard work.

Managing Director of Ghana Growth Fund Company (GGFC,) the investing arm of GN, Kwame Ofori Asomaning, in a welcome address said that Dr. Nduom has a vision to halt rice importation, which takes $1.2 billion yearly to Thailand, Taiwan, America and Chinese farmers.

He believes that Ghanaian farmers should be enjoying that money as the amounts can be used to develop rice growing communities and create thousands of jobs.

President of Assin North Rice Farmers Association, Mammoud Kwaku Oppong, said that the association was given land to cultivate with support from the African Development Bank (ADB) and the Agriculture Ministry, yet they need more funds and machinery.

He added that, many more farmers will benefit from Dr. Nduom’s initiative.

Sanaahene of Assin Breko, Nana Asare Baffour, who spoke on behalf of all the chiefs who number 49, declared support for Dr. Nduom, saying he is a man of his words unlike others.

He told the people that, the factory is the outcome of a meeting held between the chiefs and Dr. Nduom few months ago.

He also appealed for a bank in the area, to also enable them save money from their cocoa and sale of rice. Dr. Nduom assured them that the factory will be coming with a bank.

Dr. Nduom was disqualified along with  12 other presidential aspirants after anomalies were cited in his filed nomination forms.

At the last hearing of this case on October 20, the court granted an application by the EC to abridge the time for the hearing of the injunction suit from going ahead with the processes to conduct elections in December.

A private legal practitioner and Member of Parliament for the Efutu constituency, Alex Afenyo Markin has said the inquiry by the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) into the Progressive People’s Party (PPP) and its flagbearer is discriminatory.

He also intimated that there was the need for an investigation into party like the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) and how it funded its new part headquarters.

[contextly_sidebar id=”OUBwKOH105ojLyEu1oeDAnNbXebEL4YO”]EOCO in a letter dated October 21, gave the flagbearer of the PPP, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom up till Wednesday, October 26, to explain how he funded aspects of his political campaigns.

In particular, EOCO is asking Dr. Nduom to explain the source of the over GHc1.7 million he used to pay his filing fee at the Electoral Commission (EC) and that of his parliamentary candidates.

But speaking to Citi News, Mr. Afenyo Markin held that the inquiry into Dr. Nduom is misplaced and ultimately one with little basis.

According to him, “EOCO is setting a bad example, a bad precedent is being set and like I have already said, this is discriminatory. They must not say that PPP should come and explain. Come and explain what?”

“Is it that EOC finds the NPP and the NDC too big to be touched? In any event, if there is any party at all to be investigated to find out how they are funding their filling fees then the NDC should be the first party to be on their watch list.”

“We’ve had issues that the public have expressed interest in, ie: how the NDC funded its ultramodern party office. Didn’t this become of interest to EOCO,” Mr Afenyo Markin.

Witch hunt against Nduom

The PPP has since accused government of deliberately using EOCO to frustrate its flagbearer, Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom ahead of the 2016 elections.

According to the party, EOCO is conducting a witch-hunt against its flagbearer, Dr. Nduom and the party because their participation in this 2016 election is the threat to government.

In reaction to the letter Kofi Asamoah Siaw, Policy Advisor of the PPP said, “because of the votes Ghanaians will give us is a threat to some group of people and it will create some kind of destabilizing force among their party, they are doing everything under the sun to make sure that we don’t participate. With all due respect, it is the biggest joke of the century.”

The 2016 Presidential nominee of the Progressive Peoples’ Party (PPP), Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, wants Ghanaians to reject President Mahama in the December polls due to what he says is his bad record in government.

According to him, President Mahama has failed to deliver on the promises that won him the 2012 elections. Speaking at the party’s ‘Don’t waste your vote’ rally in Accra on Saturday, Dr. Nduom said the PPP is the only party that is ready to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“There is someone going around Ghana and he is asking Ghanaians that they should give him four more years, my friends, when you vote for someone, you vote for the President to bring you something good. He told us that when he comes dumsor will be a thing of the past. Where is Dumsor, Dumsor? It is here with us. The same man he told us, if you vote for me, I will build 200 schools. Where are the 200 schools? He told all Ghanaians if you vote for me, I will create millions of jobs, where are the jobs. When somebody promises and does not deliver, do they deserve four more years? No four more years,” he said.

Various speakers including the National Chairman and Running Mate to the Flagbearer of the PPP, justified why a vote for both the NDC and the NPP will be a waste , adding that a vote for PPP will translate into incompetent incorruptible leadership, education, preventive healthcare and jobs.

The “Don’t Waste Your Vote” national rally, which came off at the Nima Kawukudi Park, brought together the rank and file of the PPP around the country.
