HandcuffsThe Ashanti Regional Police Command has remanded Baba Asibi, the cleaner in the middle of the controversy over the missing body of the dead baby at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

Baba Asibi was initially arrested, released on bail and has been re-arrested.

The family of the baby has accused the Police of showing disinterest in the case by siding with the authorities of KATH.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the region, ASP Mohammed Yusif Tanko explained that the cleaner was re-arrested because everybody involved in the case is being questioned.

He disclosed that the cleaner was arraigned before court and is currently on remand scheduled to re-appear in court on February 25.

According to ASP Tanko, the nurses on duty were also arrested “and we took caution statements from them and we have released them on enquiry bail.”

Other hospital officials linked to the matter have been questioned and investigations are still underway to uncover the circumstances under which the body of the dead baby went missing.

In a related development, Deputy Health Minister, Dr Alfred Tia Sugri is appealing to striking doctors and nurses at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to return to work.

Dr Sugri who visited the facility on Tuesday observed that enough security measures have been put in place, to ensure the workers’ safety.

The doctors and nurses abandoned their posts after they were attacked by a mob demanding the remains of a missing baby.
