The Center for Local Governance Advocacy is calling on the President and Local Government Ministry to take steps in addressing the imminent vacuum that would be created when the tenure of Assembly Members expire on March 14.

[contextly_sidebar id=”g7I1axnqoTcgNeAjkg7cfKnIKT2eXQZZ”]The vacuum has been necessitated due to a ruling by the Supreme Court last Friday which canceled the much publicized District level elections originally scheduled for March 3.

The Center argues that the incumbent Assembly Members should be made to continue holding office until a solution is found to the issue.

the Acting Executive Director of the Center , Dr. Vladimir Antwi Danso in an interview with Citi News observed that “in actual fact this is one of the lacunas in the constitution we seem to be worried about, that’s why we raised it.”

“The issue is that after March 14, whatever the assemblies will do will be illegal, but we don’t want a situation where somebody will take the assemblies to court and all those hiccups in our political dispensation.”

He explained that in democracy, there are ways of addressing issues hence urging Parliament to quickly move to resolve the problem since failure to do such could have dire consequence on the country’s local governance system.

“Parliament should do something because there is complete silent on the situation which we find ourselves in,” he indicated.
