President John Mahama has stated that he will hold the Minister of Power Dr Kwabena Donkor’s promise commitment to resolving the power crisis.

Dr Kwabena Donkor stated in an interview some weeks ago stated that  he will resign from this position if he is unable to end the power crisis by the end of this year.

“I’ll resign,” the Pru East MP said when asked by the media if Ghanaians should demand his head if his earlier promise, at a press conference on February 2, 2015 that the crisis will end by the end of the year, fails to materialise.

He said government had initiated programmes to halt the energy crisis this year.

But addressing parliament in the state of the nation address, President Mahama stated that he will hold the minister of power to his word on ending the power crisis this year.

“I will hold the minister to his publicly stated commitment to resolve the electricity supply deficit by the end of this year,” Mahama said.

Ghana has been experiencing crippling power challenges in recent times.

The situation compelled government to order some emergency power barges to resolve the challenge but some energy analysts have cast doubts over government’s decision.

Barbers et al to benefit from solar power project

President Mahama has also revealed that government is working on a proposal that will make solar power available to barbers, hairdressers, and other micro entrepreneurs.

Major stakeholders in the energy sector have asked government to provide households with solar panels to help solve the energy crisis in Ghana.

He said government will soon be rolling out new initiatives on solar energy this year to help resolve the crippling power challenge.
