The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region has called off its planned demonstration, which was scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.

The demonstration, according to them, was to thank President John Mahama for bringing “unprecedented development” into the Region.

The Ashanti Regional Secretary of the NDC, Raymond Tandoh told Citi News, intelligence they have picked up indicates that the NPP may disrupt the procession.

“It was  because of security reasons,” he said adding that “Intelligence we are picking shows that it is not good for us to host the march tomorrow that is why we have postponed it. It is likely that Wontumi [NPP’s Ashanti Regional Chairman] and his people will try to disrupt us that is why we have decided to postpone it and organize ourselves very well. I think its good for us and people in the Ashanti Region.”

The demonstration dubbed: “One Thousand March for Mahama” was being organized by the Youth of Ashanti (OYA), a group affiliated to the NDC.

They enumerated some of the projects initiated by President Mahama of which they wanted to acknowledge to include by staging the demonstration to include the Mampong water project, the Jute factory, the rehabilitation of the Kumasi airport, the Kwahu water project, road networks and among others.

They claim the exercise was also to ask Presidnet Mahama for more development projects from the government.
