Pressure group, Volta NDC Youth for Action says its members will not campaign for President Mahama in the upcoming 2016 elections following the replacement of their kinsman, Prosper Bani as Chief of Staff.
[contextly_sidebar id=”kVXb5UP2eBByQTtvP52r6ZEuftRmNBUU”]According to them, the President by this replacement has shown that he is on a deliberate course to rid his government of all Voltarians in higher positions.
A statement from the Presidency and signed by the Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah relieved Prosper Bani of his post as Chief of Staff and appointed Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Julius Debrah, to replace him.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News the spokesperson for the group Alabi Bello also urged the people in the Volta Region to refrain from campaigning for the President to show their displeasure over his decision.

“We are getting to understand that president Mahama is trying to eliminate the Voltarians from his government so we want to also use this opportunity to inform him that we have seen all that he is doing and we are very much disappointed in him,” he said.
The spokesperson further vowed that “come 2016, I am not going work for NDC, I’m not going to vote for NDC because I am so much disappointed… We are not going to campaign for John Mahama for 2016.”
He noted that they have the support of “some of the MPS, DCEs, even some of the regional executives, that they cannot come out to say this but we are saying this on their behalf.”
Prosper Bani has subsequently been appointed an Ambassador Extraordinaire and Plenipotentiary.
Meanwhile, governance analyst at the University of Ghana, Dr. Evans Aggrey-Darko is cautioning President Mahama against eroding the gains he made for appointing technocrats at the presidency with his recent changes.
This according to him replacing Prosper Bani with Julius Debrah is sending the signal that he is responding to the concerns of party foot soldiers, a situation he bemoaned.
Speaking in an interview with Citi News the political Scientist insisted that the president should be mindful of the fact that he has a responsibility to all Ghanaians and not his party people alone, hence his caution.
“Inasmuch as we will be interested in trying to address the various concerns of party foot soldiers, we must not be oblivious of the overall responsibility of government to the people of this Republic,” he added.
