The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has set February 24 to embark on a demonstration exercise to compel government to return its assets, which were confiscated during the 1966 coup.

The CPP government led by Dr Kwame Nkrumah was overthrown in 1966 via a coup d’etat.
The lawsuit by the CPP was to target a number of properties in Accra, including the building, which currently houses the former Ministry of Information and Media Relations.
In an interview with Citi News, the Deputy Director of communications, Asani Tano said they have resorted to the demonstration because all other means to retrieve these properties have yielded no results.
He explained that “we are embarking on the demonstration to demand the release of our properties since the CPP was overthrown on February 24, 1966…but what is most important to us is our national headquarters that is the former information ministry.”
“We feel that it is important that it is handed back to us. It is on this reason that we want to embark on this peaceful protest and ask the government to give it back to us. We have initiated a number of dialogues and nothing fruitful has come out and we think it is appropriate to go there and then let the public hear our voice.
He however assured that the demonstration will be a peaceful one.
