He said, senior state officials engage in corrupt activities for their selfish interest and greed adding that without greed, the national cake would be big enough to satisfy the provide the basic needs of the majority of Ghanaians.

Dr Prah observed that the cost involved in putting up infrastructural projects have become high because of bribery and corruption.

“Because of bribery and corruption, the cost of putting up infrastructure is frighteningly high, and it is high only because a greedy few in positions of responsibility, state officials, very senior public and civil servants, engineers and people especially managing directors and accountants of the contract beneficiary institutions want to acquire by the quickest means, mansions, limousines and other created comforts at the expense of the common good.”

He said, “This, also, explains why our roads are so bad.”

He however suggested that the a subject on cultural values should be included in the curriculum which is taught at the basic schools in order to imbibe honesty in school children before they grow up and become corrupt.

Meanwhile, the level of corruption in the country according to the Head of the Human Security Department of the National Security Secretariat, Brigadier-General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah (rtd) has reached an ‘epidemic levels.‘
