MTN beats Vodafone as fastest growing Telco

MTN in the month of November 2014 beat competition to emerge as the fastest growing telecom company in Ghana.

It gained about 188,241 new subscribers, the highest in the month.

MTN’s voice subscriber base increased from a little below 13.million to a little above 13.6 million during the period under review representing a 1.40% growth.

MTN now holds around 45.23% of the market share.

Generally, the number of voice subscribers grew by about 228,581, measuring a little below 1%.

Tigo followed MTN as it gained a little above 43,000 subscribers which pushed its subscriber’s base by about 1.08%.

With a little above 4million subscribers, Tigo now commands a market share of 13.6%

Airtel this time around followed Tigo by gaining 13,686 subscribers. This moved its base from decline to a gain of 0.37%.

However, their market share for November, 2014 was 12.43%, a marginal dip from the previous month’s figure of 12.48%.

Vodafone which commands some 7.1 million subscribers in the market now gained 8,737 subscribers in November representing an increase of 0.12% in their base.

Vodafone’s market share now stands at 23.62%.

Interestingly, Expresso in the month of November recovered from loses to gain some 2,496 subscribers.

This pushed its subscriber base by about 2.11%. With about 120,667 subscribers, Expresso still holds about 0.4% of the market share.

On the other hand, Glo was the only Telco to have lost subscribers continuing its losing streak with a loss of a little above 28,000 dropping its subscriber base by a little below 1.5%.

Glo now holds about 4.76% of the total market share which is represents a little below1.4million subscribers.

Mobile phone penetration in Ghana is now about 113.07% with total voice subscribers numbering about 30.2million with a population of about 26.7million people.
