Black Stars captain Asamoah Gyan scored late in the game to hand Ghana a 1-0 win over Algeria in the second Group C match of the 2015 African Nations Cup.

Gyan returned to the team after missing out in the match against Senegal due to illness and his presence decided a match that looked like would end goalless.

The Al-Ain forward shot past Algerian goalie Rois Mbolhi in the 92nd minute from a Mubarak Wakaso pass to give Ghana three points from two matches.

Algeria dominated the first 20 or so minutes and could have gone ahead in the first half when Nabil Bentaleb was found in the penalty area but he sent his shot wide.

Ghana tried to respond and it became a very testy encounter with Afriyie Acquah, Majid Boughera and Bentaleb getting booked by Referee Coulibaly Koman.

The Black Stars grew into the match and they became creating chances of their own with Asamoah Gya heading wide and Jordan Ayew flicking a cross from his brother Andre over the bar.

The second half looked like ending on a blank but soon after Algeria fired wide from Bentaleb, Wakaso sent Gyan through with pass over the defence and the Ghana captain put it in past Mbolhi.

Gyan was mobbed by his team-mates and coach Avram Grant who got his first win as Ghana coach since taking over in 2014.
