Management of the Volta Regional Sports Authority have decried the practice of open defecation in and around the Ho Sports Stadium.

Mrs Vivian Dougblor; the Volta Regional Director of the Sports Authority observed that some residents have been defecating around the playing field especially the northern end of the perimeter.

She said the residents both young and old could be seen in the broad day light engaging in open defecation with no regards to the workers around.

Mrs Vivian Dougblor who was visibly worried said the Authority has been facing difficulties stopping the people from engaging in the unacceptable practise since they appear more resistant.

“There was time I tried to stop a young man from defecating in the area; he ignored me I went ahead to do his thing,” she lamented.

Citi News checks at the facility revealed the sorry state of the stadium.

The once glamorous sports facility has not seen major renovation works for years.

The seats in the stadium have been exposed to the mercy of the weather with some broken.

There were visible cracks on the corroded walls.

The wired mesh which initially shielded the football field has rusted and steadily wearing out.

The north end of the stadium which is not enclosed has virtually been overtaken by growing bush alongside reptiles, rats and human excreta.

The regional director also told Citi News that the stadium had been turned into a den for smokers who parade on the basketball court to smoke with impunity.

The director who couldn’t offer an immediate solution to the problem believes completing the fence wall around the stadium would make the stadium inaccessible to intruders.
