Gyan down with malaria; likely to miss Ghana’s AFCON opener

Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan is a  major doubt for the Black Stars’ opening game against Senegal on Monday after he was rushed to the hospital over the weekend with illness.

Allsports reported that Al Ain striker Gyan, has been unable to train with the team and was taken to the hospital on Saturday, however the player has since been discharged.

The sports website also reported that John Boye was taken to the newly built Mongomo Provincial Hospital after a suspected case of fever.

Boye had reportedly not been well since Saturday but his condition deteriorated on Sunday prompting the medical tean to have him admitted.

Both players are now doubts for Ghana’s group opener on Monday although there are suggestions that Boye might recover in time  for the Black Stars after he took part in the team’s final session.

Ghana face Algeria and South Africa after the meeting with Senegal in a group that is widely considered the toughest at the tournament.
