The Rector of Ho Polytechnic, Prof Emmanuel Sakyi has said his outfit is preparing for the conversion of the institution to assume a status of a university.

[contextly_sidebar id=”nBmE6kwCq7HeWxxt0fTqxLYrerFewNcB”]He said they are working on a plan for the provision of adequate infrastructure to improve on the quality of human resource in the polytechnic.

He said committees have been constituted to introduce distance learning, sandwich, long vacation, evening, and weekend programmes as well as establishment of satellite campuses in the region.

In tandem with the initiatives, Prof Sakyi said the institution is collaborating with some of the world leading Technical Universities; L’institut National Polytechnic, Felix Houphoute-Boigny of Cote D’voire , VIT University in India and Pulaski Technical College, USA to tap from their vast expertise.

He explained that the objectives of establishing a technical university is to bridge the gap between academia and industry and also equip students with employable skills for economic transformation of the country.

“We don’t need to send our cars to Accra for servicing when we have a well-equipped auto engineering department,” he said.

Prof Sakyi revealed this at a press briefing to mark his hundred days in office as the new Rector of the Ho Polytechnic.

He however entreated the staff and management of the Polytechnic to work hard to attain the goals and aspirations of the polytechnic adding that “We can solve our own problems; all we need is a strong institution and a united front.’’
