Government has begun negotiations with labour on a new national minimum wage and the base pay for public sector workers for the year 2015.
The new wage is expected to be announced before the end of January.

Speaking at a press conference in Accra on Tuesday, the Minister urged labour to take into consideration the national budget for the year before they table their offer.
“My understanding and firm belief is that its important for both partners, government and labour to appreciate the legitimate concerns of organized labour and their legitimate needs and demands against the constraints of the budget and the capacity of the budget to contain whatever they may be demanding,” he added.
The daily minimum wage in 2014 was pegged at GHC 6 from the previous GHC 5.24.
According to the Minister, It is expected that the National Tripartite Committee (NTC), which comprises government, organized labour and the Ghana Employers Association, “would conclude negotiations much more earlier than we have done in previous years and before in order that we would be able to get the controller and accountant general to facilitate payment of the determined base pay and the daily minimum wage.”
