The Deputy General Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), Dr Justice Yankson has said the government should be advised to respond to the demands of workers.

He was responding to a call by Economist, Kwame Pianim entreating Ghanaians to refrain from making constant demands from government and instead make the efforts to support themselves the best way they can.

[contextly_sidebar id=”YFFR2btbZUXBROpzhWEladF15RONwxDK”]“Mr Pianim has made his call and I guess it’s in good faith in terms of his opinion but for us as workers we will disagree with him,” he said.

Speaking on Eyewitness News Dr Yankson argued that Mr Pianim should instead advise the government to meet the demands of workers.

“If he is also so minded, he should also advise government to do the little that they have to do for workers because we have no option than to speak the only language that the government seem to understand.”

The Deputy General Secretary therefore suggest that the government should find solutions to these demands made by the labor unions, adding, “the government should look at the prevailing circumstances, what they had refused to do over the years and what may have revoked some of these activities in the past and then even going forward as well.”

“As far as the GMA is concerned some of these issues that we are talking about have been on these tables for five years now and it’s unfortunate that the government had refused to address these issues,”he bemoaned.

He disclosed that the GMA is expecting the government to meet their demands before the the times expires

“In regards our conditions of service we have submitted a draft proposal to them and they haven’t gotten back to us. We have given them to the 30th of June this year and we expect them to be able to work within that period,” he said

“We are very law abiding but if our employers refused to also  give the little that is due us then definitely the turbulence will continue,”he warned.
