Economist, Kwame Pianim has entreated Ghanaians to refrain from making huge demands from government to enable the President focus on fixing the ailing economy.

He advised that instead of making constant demands, citizens must make the effort to support themselves the best way they can.

The economist also urged Ghanaians to “pay  for the right tariff for electricity, right tariff for power, don’t let us depend on subsidy of fuel. I think that Ghana has a future but it has to start now with restoring macroeconomic stability.”

He is predicting doom for the Ghanaian economy if governments fails to be fiscally disciplined by cutting down on reckless expenditure.

The government came under massive criticism in 2014 for the various socio-economic challenges which affected the nation.

This compelled the government to seek an economic bailout programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) aimed at salvaging the ailing economy.

Speaking in an interview with Citi News, Mr. Pianim insisted that  “if we don’t have fiscal discipline …if we don’t cut expenditures on big projects to reflect cost, then we are going to be in trouble.

He suggested that the government must “prioritize on expenditure and in some areas, we have to spend more to bring in the right quality of people to be able to help us grow the economy.”

He was optimistic that the programme with the IMF will help Ghana immensely and therefore called on the general public to support the IMF bailout programme.
