Former National Security Cordinator, Lieutenant Colonel Larry Gbevlo Lartey has hinted that Ghana may soon see the establishment of the first paragliding school in the Volta Region.

He said the school will train the youth in the region to fly and also provide job opportunities for the people..

[contextly_sidebar id=”BcFM8sbofTVJlocrn1oQ9iiVxsRJGKey”]Volta Region has been described by tourist consultants as one of the most endowed, but untapped tourism destination point in Ghana.

It launched the biggest paragliding site in West Africa in an area full of waterfalls, hidden carves and highlands.

The Likpe-Todome ecotourism site which is located in the Hohoe municipality is set to experience major development projects to harness its full potentials.

In an interview with Citi News, Col Gbevlo Lartey who is spearheading the project  said the community is collaborating with their foreign partners including a flying group in Togo to establish a flying school in the area.

“There is a flying club in Togo which has already expressed interest to join us here in training the local guys to fly. Once the local youth learn to fly, they could take over the flying because we already own the parachutes,” he said.

As part of the project, cable cars would be installed across the plain for visitors to experience an aerial ride over the jungle waterfalls, mountains and the thick rainforest.

Col Gbevlo Lartey further added that the cable car installations will cost about $3 million and  therefore called on investors to take advantage of the feasible project by sponsoring it.

“We already have arrangements with some consultants to put up some cable cars from down here to the top of the hill up there. The estimated cost is about three million dollars and that means we need investors to take advantage of the project. And trust me any investors that would support this project would not regret it at all,” the former national security coordinator noted.

The Paragliding site which is the second in Ghana has three take-off points and three landing sites as compared to the first one in Kwawu; Eastern Region which has just one take-off point and one landing site. The mountain that hosts the take-off point also has six ancestral caves located just 20 meters beneath it.

It has a restaurant at the summit christened ‘kortini’ which means mountain in the Sekpele dialect of the people of Likpe.
