MTN leads data pack

MTN Ghana records GHC 1.753 billion revenue for 2013

Telecom giant, MTN led the pack of telcos in gaining data subscribers in the month of October.

 
MTN made about 135,000 new subscribers shooting its base by about 1.7%.

 
This shot up its market share marginally to 51% representing a little below 8million subscribers.

 
This is contained in the market share report from the National Communications Authority (NCA) for the month of October 2014.
Generally, the data market growth slowed down to about 1.6% from a rate of 5.4% recorded in the previous month, September.

 
Following MTN’s lead, Vodafone recorded a highest growth rate of 4% after it added about 105,000 new data subscribers.

 
This pushed its market share to a little above 17% represented by 2.7million subscribers.

 
With a little below 26,000 new data subscribers, Airtel followed the title race.

 
This shot up its subscriber base to a little above 2.1million subscribers which represents about 13.6% of the market share.

 
Glo followed with about 19,500 new subscribers shooting it data subscriber base by about 3%.

 
With about 681,000 subscribers, Glo commands about 4.4% of the market share.

 
Expresso and Tigo however recorded declines in subscriber base.

 
Tigo lost about 2% of its base which represents a little over 45,000.

 
This reduced its market share from 13.9% to 13.4%. Tigo now has a little above 2.1 million data subscribers.

 
Expresso continued its losing streak shedding about a 1000 data subscriber.

 
The decline represents about 3% decline of its base which is now about 32,000.

 
Expresso has the least market share of about 0.2%.

 
Mobile Data penetration is still relatively low at just about 58.7% with a population of about 26.7million people.
