President John Mahama says government will construct more feacal treatment plants across the country.

The plants will be used to turn feacal waste into manure for various purposes.

The President announced this when he toured the Mudor Feacal Treatment Plant at Korle Gonno in Accra.

The plant was built by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) with support from the Danish government.

President Mahama described the practice where feacal waste is dumped directly into the sea as unacceptable.

According to the President, “every district that has water closets are used have to be dislodged and if they are dislodged, that excrement is dumped in various places including some fresh water streams.”

The new Danish technology he said will be applied in other parts of the country to be able to treat the waste “and the beautiful thing is, we will be able to turn the waste into compost and supply it to farmers to be able to fertilize their farms.”

The President expressed the readiness of government to forge more collaborations with the Danish Embassy and “see how we can put in a project to identify some of the urban centers that still have problems with the discharge of liquid waste.”
