A Civil Society group in the Eastern Region, Mass Action for Development (MAFOD) has issued a 10-day ultimatum to government to repair major roads in the region or face their wrath.

This threat was issued by the group after the Eastern Regional house of chiefs led by the Okyehene Amoatia Ofori Panyin toured some roads in the region to ascertain the extent of the poor nature of the roads.

Speaking to Citi News, Convener for MAFOD, Kingsley Ofosu Ntiamaoh threatened that they will stage  a series of demonstrations until their demands are met.

[contextly_sidebar id=”maMJIpbunWQUzkKgYhZu9QDSZdCXULb0″]He said residents have on countless occasions complained to the authorities to as a matter of urgency, repair the roads in the region.

Mr Ofosu Ntiamaoh said since their complaints have not been addressed, a series of demonstrations will be staged to press home their demands.

“We are going to have sustained demonstrations until they adhere to our request. We are not making any unreasonable request because this is just common road construction,” he fumed.

“When the President came on a tour in the Eastern Region, he was flying because of the poor nature of the roads. He was flying with tax payers money. Are we also not human beings? Aren’t we paying taxes to the government? Why have they neglected all our roads?” he lamented.

According to Mr Ntiamaoh, since the government was elected, the region has seen no development, especially the rehabilitation of their roads.

“There has not been any single road construction since they came and the worst of it is the road Nsawam-Apedwa road which connects 7 of our regions, but as we speak it is in bad condition,” he said.

He argued that even though the government can afford to fund the rehabilitation of roads in the region, “all that they say is that there is no money but we believe that there is money.”
