The ECOWAS Committee of the Chiefs of Defense Staff has pledged 88 military medical personnel to help fight the spread of the deadly Ebola disease in the three worst affected countries; Liberia, Sierra Leon and Guinea.
This pledge was made after an extraordinary meeting of the Committee of the Chiefs of Defense Staff in Accra on Monday.
The meeting was to discuss the implementation of the deployment of military personnel and logistics to boost and improve the fight against the Ebola disease.

The Chairman of the committee who doubles as Ghana`s Chief of Defense Staff, Vice Admiral Mathew Quarshie told Citi News the meeting was aimed at strategizing effecting ways through which the military can get involved in the Ebola fight.
He said: “With the military, because of the nature of our work, when we get involved in things, we know what to do and we add impetus to whatever is happening. That is the idea. So we have pledged to send personnel who are military to help in the fight.”
According to him, ECOWAS member states pledged eight personnel from each West African country, made up of Doctors and Paramedics.
Meanwhile, the World Health Organization (WHO) has announced that more than 6,300 lives have been lost to the Ebola virus from the three hardest hit nations in West Africa, Sierra Leone, Liberia and Guinea.
A total of 17,834 cases have also been recorded since the outbreak of the disease early this year.
