President John Dramani Mahama has disclosed that government has secured $150 million to construct build and fix bad roads that lead to cocoa and farming areas across the country.
[contextly_sidebar id=”Gx7N1EX9urZHPJ5BVOtGLEvSdMRdEqDL”]According to the President, government is concerned about the roads adding that “we will surely make a difference over the next two to three years. You will see a very remarkable improvement in the road network all over the country.”
The President was speaking at this year’s National Farmers Day ceremony at Sefwi Wiawso in the Western Region.
Citi News reported earlier that hundreds of bags of cocoa beans are going waste in the Wassa Amenfi West District in the Western Region due to bad the road network in the area.
Residents in other regions including Kumbungu had embarked on demonstration exercises to force government to fix their roads.
President Mahama said government has secured about $150 million to fix the roads and this will be replicated each year within a period of five years, to significantly improve the roads in the country.
“I know that the major problem in the Western Region is road network. We are taking the issue of roads in the Western Region very seriously and very soon we are going to cut the sod for the launching of a massive cocoa roads programme,” he noted.
President Mahama assured that “We are not going to look for the money we have secured the money and this year we are starting with 150million dollars’ worth of roads and we are going to continue every year with a $150 million worth of roads for five years.
He further advised Ghanaians to patronize local foods in order to create more jobs in the country.
