Ghana marks 30th National Farmers’ day

Ghana will today mark the 30th National Farmers’ day celebrations by rewarding farmers who have been outstanding in their respective fields.

Prizes will also be awarded to deserving farmers and fishermen in order of best practices and outputs.

The 2014 edition of the celebration is under the theme: “Eat what you grow”

In all, 71 farmers across the country will be awarded at the national event at Sefwi-Wiawso in the Western region.

The awardees include; fishermen, researchers, extension officers and scientists.

[contextly_sidebar id=”rCBZuqAOR02563XNl3OZb1vfmaiv38H4″]Activities that will mark this year’s event include: a National Farmers Forum at which the Award Winners are expected to interact with policy makers and experts on some technological advances in the agricultural sector and also make their views known.

An exhibition will be mounted by institutions and individuals during the event to showcase and share new ideas on technological developments in the agricultural sector.

The National Farmers Day celebration was established by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to honour the nation’s hard working farmers.

On the first Friday of every December, farmers who excel in their respect fields are awarded with certificates and other prizes.
