A group calling itself the Coalition of Unpaid Nurses and Midwives on Wednesday staged a demonstration in Ho in the Volta Region to demand the payment of their accumulated salary arrears.

According to them, they have not received their salaries for over 20 months; a situation they say has brought untold hardship on them.

Similar exercise have been embarked upon by nurses in regions in the country including Kumasi.

They had earlier threatened to sue government over the issue.

[contextly_sidebar id=”V3XrpxM1QdGkPfdgYldCFMAvbxPEyh3I”]Speaking to Citi News during the demonstration, the national coordinator for the union Jefferson Asare Dankwa lamented that “we are all trained and qualified nurses and midwives but we have been working for close to 19 months and others closed to 24 months without salaries.”

He disclosed that even though they were on demonstration they would still go back to their various hospitals and work.

“We are working for the people therefore we can’t leave the facilities and come and demonstrate that is why we called the few numbers that is  facility coordinators in other to help us present the petition to our regional minister,” he said.

The demonstrators however threatened more of such actions in other regions if they do not receive any positive response from government.
