Member of Parliament (MP) for the Effutu Constituency, Alex Afenyo-Markin has challenged government to ensure the Savannah Accelerated Development Authority (SADA) programme is carried through to achieve success.

Reports indicate some residents in the three regions of the North are unhappy because government said very little about SADA in the 2015 budget.

One of the youth in the area told Citi News that, “it is just unfortunate government did not capture it in the 2015 budget and has neglected this whole SADA thing.”

[contextly_sidebar id=”8BiORaATDZVtqeCdNHnIsK1cf9FZjt52″]But the Minister of State in-charge of Development Authorities at the Office of the President, Dr Mustapha Ahmed has told Citi News SADA has not collapsed.

Management of SADA has come under intense criticism for misappropriating public funds.

They have also been accused of misusing about GHs 19 million cedis meant to secure tractors for government.

Speaking on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, Afenyo-Markin insisted that “this is a serious matter and government must be serious” on the SADA initiative.

“The business of governance is not about issuing statements and being dismissive. People need development, people need support to realize their own social aspirations. If SADA is working why is it that no provision was made in 2015 budget. And as a Minister where is he going to get money to undertake any project under SADA?” he questioned.

He further asked whether “Mr Agambire [rLG Boss] has refunded the money of the tree planting project which was directed by government? Has he refunded the over GHs 18 million under the gguineaowl project?”

Meanwhile, management and stakeholders of SADA are expected to meet in Tamale on December 9, 2014 to discuss the way forward for the authority.
