An aspirant to the position of National Chairmanship of the New Patriotic Party, Paul Afoko says his position on the ballot paper gives him an advantage over the other competitors.
Mr. Afoko who is third on the ballot paper said his believe in the Dankwa-Dombo-Busia tradition makes him the obvious choice.
In an interview with Citi News, Mr Afoko said his position on the ballot paper is strategic.
“… I have the trinity of our founding fathers; Danquah-Busia-Dombo which is the winning number,” he said.
The chairman aspirant who was nearly disqualified after a group alleged he was an ex-convict said his position on the ballot paper has boosted his confidence in the race.
Paul Afoko also expressed joy at the party’s decision to hold its first ever National Delegates Congress in Tamale in honour of one of its founding fathers, Chief Simon Diedong Dombo.
“If after 60 years the NPP has decided to hold its first delegates’ congress in the Northern region and I am exceedingly happy that the Trinity has come together on my ballot paper,’’ he added.
Balloting for the NPP chairmanship position was held at the party’s headquarters Monday. The incumbent Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey picking the number one spot. Steve Ntim who is making a third attempt, picked the second position while former first Vice Chairman, Fred Oware picked the fourth position.
The stage is now set for the party’s National Delegates’ Congress scheduled for April 12, 2014 in the Northern Regional capital, Tamale.
