The Tolon District Assembly in the Northern Region has awarded on contract all basic schools which were ripped off by rainstorm.
Middle 2014, about 12 schools including the Woribogu Ahmadiya Primary school were completely ripped off.
Students of the affected schools have being forced to study under trees whilst the renovation works are in progress.
[contextly_sidebar id=”e7EvgcsfCXnGPeD5eLm8v1Jcd2w1stUH”]But the Tolon District Chief Executive, Seidu Abukari said contractors were busily renovating the affected schools and by extension building additional schools.
He said the assembly requested a list of the affected schools and other dilapidated schools in the district for immediate attention.
He said, “As I speak contractors are at site and are working feverishly to ensure that immediately after Christmas the affected schools will reopen and the children will be in those schools and learning will continue.”
The Tolon DCE exclusively spoke to Citi News after the commissioning and handing over of a 3 unit classroom block at Kasuliyili at the cost of GHC95, 000, 00.
According to him, his administration’s major priority was to eliminate schools under trees in the Tolon District.
He stated, “On assumption of office in August 2013, I realized that there was a deficit in educational infrastructure in the whole of the Tolon District and Kasuliyili traditional area in particular.”
“It therefore became extremely necessary for us to provide a one number three unit classroom block for the Kasuliyili District Assembly Junior High School: in addition we want to ensure that all schools under trees are completely eliminated,” the Tolon DCE highlighted.
He said the assembly also constructed a pavilion for the Tolon Senior High School at the cost of GHC68, 000, 00 to mitigate the admission constraints.
He enumerated illiteracy, unskilled personnel, marginal farmlands and poor health as some of the developmental challenges which needed immediate attention.
He said the assembly will continue to invest especially in the education sector in line with the Better Ghana Agenda.
“It is our fervent hope that the heavy investment in the provision of key infrastructure coupled with the building of the capacities of the people and providing them with the requisite employable skills and expertise would promote the desired rapid growth and development of the Tolon District.”
Seidu Abukari commended the assembly’s development partners for their enormous contribution towards improving the living standards of residents of the district.
Some students of the Kasuliyili District Assembly Junior High School thanked government for extending education infrastructure in the area.
Kasulilana, Naa Bukari Yakubu and his elders also commended the assembly for creating the congenial atmosphere needed to propel their growth and development.
Citi News gathered that the chief of Kasuli, Naa Bukari Yakubu who doubles as the Rector of Tamale Training College has established a private Senior High School at Kasuliyili.
The school currently has a student population of about 190.
