Former Chairman of the Ghana Football Association, Dr Nyaho Nyaho Tamakloe, has thrown his support behind cabinet’s decision to slash the World Cup budget proposed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports by half.

A statement released by the Government on Monday and signed by the Minister of Information, Mahama Ayariga, indicated that the state had approved the release of GHS 10,500,000 to the GFA for the Black Stars’ campaign in Brazil.

According to the former FA boss, the decision is a step in the right direction considering the country’s current economic status.

“I am impressed that the amount approved by cabinet did not get anywhere close the initial amount requested.

The amount has been justified by what the Minister explained and that pleases me.

This is because the Ministry is not legally bound to disclose details of the budget so if the Information Minister has explained what the monies will be used for then it is a good thing”, he said in an interview with Citi Sports on Monday.

He further went on commend the Minister of information for providing a break down on how the monies will be disbursed.

He explained that the move would lead to better accountability, especially in the face public criticism of the amounts mentioned in the budget.

“Definitely, by the points raised by the Information Minister, these are monies that can and will be accounted for.

I am confident that explanations on the use of the monies would make sense when questions arise.”

Ghana will begin its World Cup campaign against the United States on the 16th of June.
