A Koforidua High Court has placed an injunction on the upcoming National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Eastern Regional elections which was to be held on Thursday.
The party’s quest to elect its regional and national officers before the year ends has been hit by several court injunctions.
The latest injunction was secured by two party members who claim that one Offei who won the Akropong Constituency election as constituency chairman is being prevented from performing his role.
[contextly_sidebar id=”bd68tovnAtMGQn9vAqLOrlbjBkz1P2BR”]One of the complainants, Matthew Kwadwo Antwi told Citi News, their earlier call on the party to address their concerns was disregarded, hence their decision to go to court to seek redress.
He accused the leadership of the party in the region for attempting to “manipulate processes.”
According to Mr. Antwi, they petitioned the national executives and the party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia is said to have given directives to the regional executives over the matter.
But Antwi claims that despite Mr. Nketia’s directives, no action has so far been taken.
The court injunction has reportedly been submitted to the regional secretary of the NDC, Anthony Gyampo.
“If they are ready to allow Offei to act as the chairman, we will be ok,” he remarked.
Meanwhile the Eastern Regional Secretary of the NDC, Anthony Gyampo has admitted that the party has been served with the injunction notice.
He is assuring NDC members in the region that the party will try to seek an out of court settlement with the two aggrieved members.
In a related development, the Functional Executive Committee of the NDC will on Wednesday meet to set a new date for its National Delegates Congress.
The party postponed its October 25 National Congress due to a court case brought against the party executives for allegedly overstaying their mandated tenure of office.
