‘Okada’ affecting taxi business in Ho

Illegal operations of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as “okada business” is killing taxi business in the Volta regional capital.

Years ago, the most popular means of commercial transportation in Ho was taxis. Taxis.

Saddened by this situation, the commercial drivers in the municipality have accused the Municipal Assembly for allowing the illegal business of the okada boys to flourish.

According to the taxi drivers, the motorcyclists scramble for parking and loading space with them and more often coax passengers to join their motor all in the name of conveying them to their door steps.

They  also claim that the okada boys are exempted from levies from the Assembly which they are forced to pay.

To this end the taxi drivers union chairman in Ho Mr Wisdom Adraku is calling on government to swiftly ensure the implementation of the legislative instrument 2180 that forbids operations of the okada boys since several calls on the Assembly seems to end up in futility.

Information gathered by citifmoline.com showed that a commercial motorcyclist make  about Ghc30 to Ghc40 daily.

Meanwhile, the chief of Ezinlibo in the Western Region has banned the operations of Okada in the area.
