The Police in the Volta Region have revealed that their preliminary investigations show that the District Chief Executive for  Nkwanta South, Peter Kojo Kenyeso was assassinated.

The DCE was gunned down by unknown assailants on Monday evening at his residence.

“As soon as he parked his vehicle, he was looking for his mobile phone which he couldn’t find so he asked his personal assistant to enter his room and bring the torch light. Then he left his driver side [door] and the passenger side [door] to go and look for his phone,” he said.

“When he opened the door then suddenly the gun went off. It hit the back of the neck to shoulder and then wounded him seriously. We took the body to the hospital and he was pronounced dead.”

The Police insisted that the shooting incident is “an assassination case” because it was “not robbers, they didn’t enter anywhere.”

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for the area, Gershon Kofi Gbediame told Citi News the Police are trying to hunt down the killers.

“I was with him the whole day; we only departed about 5pm. I am very sad,” he said.

Mr. Gbediame also revealed that there is tension in the town and called for re-enforcement of security personnel in the area.
