Universal Pictures have released a trailer for the gas-guzzling action film, Furious 7.

The film, the latest in the blockbuster Fast & Furious franchise, will once again reunite actors Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and Dwayne Johnson. British actor Jason Statham – no stranger to insane vehicular action thanks to his role in the Transporter films – joins as the villian, after his appearance at the end of Fast & Furious 6.

James Wan takes over directorial duties from Justin Lin, who directed the previous four films of the series. The blaring soundsystems and drifting cars of the trailer suggest that it will continue in much the same vein as its predecessor, Fast & Furious 6.

This time, Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) and his posse rendezvous with drift king Sean Boswell (Lucas Black) and his crew in order to exact retribution for the death of Han, a former member of Toretto’s gang. Complications arise when Han’s murderer, Ian Shaw (Statham), ensnares Toretto in his brother’s underground car racing syndicate.

The film will feature the final on-screen appearance of Paul Walker, who tragically died in a car crash in Los Angeles on November 30, 2013. His untimely death, which occurred half way through filming, caused Universal to postpone the original release date of July 11, 2014. The script has since been reworked by writer Chris Morgan to provide a suitable send-off for Walker’s character, Brian O’Conner. A combination of CGI effects and stand-ins (Walker’s real life brothers) were used to complete the actor’s scenes. The Fast & Furious films have so far grossed $2.4 billion at the worldwide box-office.
