The former District Chief Executive(DCE) for Ahafo Ano South in the Ashanti region, Gabriel Barima has been renominated by President John Dramani Mahama.

This was revealed  in a Press Statement issued by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

[contextly_sidebar id=”8KlFm2zfKciUNB2FQ3i5o4sfvUaqJg7T”]Gabriel Barima was dismissed after he angrily chided health workers in his district for a comment made by an unidentified person.

Mr. Barima, after telling the workers off, stormed out of a durbar, which was attended by some chiefs in the area.

A video recording of the incident went viral, igniting national outrage with many describing his actions as disrespectful.

He was later investigated by the government and pardoned but was subsequently sacked after he asked for royalties for popularizing ‘tweaa.’

There have been calls for the former DCE to be reinstated by some residents in his district, who described his punishment as harsh.

A local government analyst, George Kyei Baffour in August, for instance said the reinstatement of the Ahafo-Ano South District Chief Executive (DCE), will enhance good governance.

“…if the President has gone back after having been fed with the accurate information, I believe that it is in the right direction,” he said.

Other DCEs appointed by President Mahama to serve for another term include Hon. Isah Zakariah who was appointed as DCE for Yendi Municipal Assembly, and Mr. Mohammed Dramani ; DCE for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba District Assembly .
