The people of Avalavi, a town in the Ketu North District Assembly are to benefit from a 3-unit classroom block to help improve the basic education in the area.
The new block which will also have ancillary facilities is being funded from the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) MP’s allocation of the common fund.
The Member of Parliament, James Klutse Avedzi, who is also the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Finance, said the initiative forms part of his commitment to improving on educational facilities in the District as well as encourage residents to value education.
[contextly_sidebar id=”oSZwoTBbUZVKTpG7ob6s1FW26g9bAEze”]The school block is to provide a modern classroom facility for pupils of Avalavi Junior High School, who currently hold classes in a dilapidated school block that had not seen major renovations for many years.
James Klutse told Citi News that part of the money would also be used to ensure that the old school block gets a modern outlook.
“They don’t have a facility for junior high school so they have been putting pressure on me all the time. Fortunately I got the cheque few days ago which was paid into the districts GETFUND account so I’m hoping that by next week the cheque goes through. As soon as it goes through, I would ask the district to go through the tendering process to select the contractor to do the work,” he indicated.
The MP who couldn’t disclose the total amount involved said his GETFUND allocation would be enough to cater for the project.
He said out of over 70 public schools operating in dilapidated structures in the area, the district assembly has been able to provide befitting structures for about 60 of them.
He however pledged his commitment to ensure that educational facilities are improved in the district.
The MP also urged parents and guardians to ensure that their wards attend school.
