Irate youth of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Jirapa District of the Upper West region this afternoon locked up the office of the District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area.
The youth also attempted to destroy some properties belonging to the assembly but the timely intervention of the Police in the area saved the situation.
The actions of the youth group is in protest against the DCE of the area, Vivian-Nelly Kunko for her involvement in what they termed as corrupt practices and disregard for party structures in the constituency.
The youth group a few days ago went on a rampage in the Jirapa township and later declared an indefinite boycott of all party activities in the district until the DCE is removed from office.
Today’s action according to the group “is to send a signal to the President that the entire district and for that matter the NDC leadership in the Jirapa constituency is no longer ready to work with Vivian.”
Early last week, the DCE threatened a law suit against the Jirapa constituency executives of the NDC to proof her innocence about the allegations leveled against her but the irate youth maintained that she takes bribes and wrongfully awarding contracts to undeserving contractors instead of following due procedure.
The youth on October 13 called on President Mahama to sack the DCE or incur their wrath.
They accuse the DCE of taking bribes and making the NDC party unpopular in the district.
