The Chairman of Parliaments Energy Committee, Dr. Kwabena Donkor wants managers of the energy sector sacked for citing irregular supply of gas from Nigeria as the reason for the load shedding exercise.

He said managers of the energy sector have not been innovative in handling the persistent irregular gas supply from the West African country.

The country recently experienced extreme power crisis as a result of labour unrest in Nigeria which affected the supply of natural gas to Ghana.

The Minister of Energy, Kofi Armah Buah recently stated that he cannot give a definite date on when the current load shedding exercise will end.

The Minister said, ”I wont give a specific date because there are a lot of factors that we are working on that are beyond your control and my control and depends on all of us working together to meet the realities of Ghanaians.”

But the Pru East legislator maintains that excuse by managers of the power system for the current power challenges is untenable.

Speaking at a forum organized by the Institute of Green Growth Solutions to review the energy sector,  Donkor said “I believe that anybody who uses supply from Nigeria today as an excuse for not having enough generation, does not deserve to occupy whatever position he occupies and I say this with all seriousness.

“How many times have we not known that this supply is unreliable?Since when has gas supply from Nigeria become reliable. It has been historically unreliable. Our media is happy to accept this mentally-retarding explanations and regurgitate that to listening Ghanaians.

“Unfortunately arising out of our own intellectual laziness, we accept any excuse,”he fumed.

The Chief Executive officer of the Private Enterprise Federation(PEF) Nana Osei Bonsu on the other hand called on government to ensure that Ghanaian businesses  benefit from the about 500 million dollar Millennium Challenge compact for the energy sector.
