The Industrial and Commercial Workers Union (ICU) is asking government to deal with employers who exploit their employees.

According to the Regional Officer of the ICU, Eleazar Nyannu, about 90 % of all workers in Tema are not satisfied with their work  because of poor remuneration from their employers.

[contextly_sidebar id=”4GmMDnvK1FpO7bGk3DvrIed0kokMAzKf”]He made this revelation at the celebration of the Precarious Workers Day- an annual celebration by workers aimed at informing government about the injustice and deprivation being meted out to employees.

Mr. Nyannu further asked government to do everything possible to also give a listening ear to the plight of employees battling with poor working conditions.

He called on legal practitioners who provide services to employees to ensure that they adhere to the employment  rules.

Workers from various organizations have staged demonstrations to protest against poor working conditions in 2014.

Some workers of the Golden Tulip Hotel embarked on a protest in September to register their displeasure about unfavourable working conditions.

The secretary of the local workers union, Henrietta Boakye told Citi Business News, the Finance Minister who doubles as the chairman of the board of the hotel must be proactive by alerting the President of the challenges the hotel was facing.

That was the second time the workers had staged a demonstration against its management for poor working conditions and non – payment of their salaries.

Golden Tulip in August, staged a demonstration for similar reasons.
