ab_fireEagle FM, a Citi FM partner station in Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the Northern Region was gutted by fire on Friday, destroying properties and equipment running into several thousands of Ghana cedis.

The two-storey building on the main Walewale-Bolgatanga road which houses the station and other stores had the top floor burnt beyond recognition.

The station has been temporarily closed and no casualty has been reported.

Narrating the incident to Citi News, the Chief Executive Officer of the station, Jafaru Shaibu explained that the timely intervention of personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), saved the entire building from the inferno.

He commended the fire service personnel for their swiftness explaining it took them a hectic time to bring the situation under control.

“We lost our two studios, production room, offices, ceiling and electrical gadgets,’’ he lamented.

The CEO said the fire started in the early hours of the day when they were notified of heavy smoke coming out of the roof of the building and no sooner the whole place was engulfed in flames prompting a distress call to the GNFS.

He therefore made a passionate appeal for help and assistance to restore the station back on air to continue to educate, inform and entertain listeners in its environs.
