Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah says Milovan Rajevac is one of at least five coaches he is considering for an advisory role at the 2014 world cup but insist he has not made a definite decision yet.
Appiah told AllSports.com.gh exclusively, however that he is yet to make a firm decision on which of those five coaches will play the key advisor role in the 2014 world cup.
Reports after Ghana’s 0-1 loss have suggested the Black Stars coach has settled on his former boss as the man for that role. And while adamant that he still has huge respect and admiration for the Serbian, Appiah insists it is by no means guaranteed Rajevac will be part of his backroom staff.
Appiah’s narrative is backed up Ghana Football Association president Kwesi Nyantakyi who says there is no definite decision on any role for Rajevac who was in charge when Ghana reached the quarter finals of the 2010 world cup.
The Serbian has kept close links to Ghana football since leaving for a more lucrative offer in Qatar and was in the stands when Ghana sealed world cup qualification in Cairo. He watched Ghana lose 0-1 in Podgorica with the media in the Eastern European country reporting afterwards that he has an offer to play a role at the World Cup in Brazil.
Rajevac also met with GFA president Kwesi Nyantakyi who later said they could discuss a role for him but with Appiah’s express consent.
Appiah has been keen to pick his own technical man after he kicked against suggestions that he needed a superior technical adviser. Talk of a technical adviser for the Ghana boss has persisted right from the moment the black Stars were drawn for Egypt in the play-off and refused to go away even after Ghana comprehensively beat them.
He has since told the GFA he would make a decision on who his top technical advisor would be by the end of April.
