The leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) is urging the general public to disregard the report from the party’s Constitutional and Legal Committee calling for the re-reinstatement of two party officials; Perry Okudzeto and Opare Hammond.

The statement signed by the party’s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong urged all to “disregard the said publication with all the contempt it deserves.”

The committee set up by the Steering Committee of the NPP on Wednesday recommended that the acting Director of Communication, Perry Okudzeto and Director of Finance and Administration, Opare Hammond be reinstated after thorough investigations.

The party chairman, Paul Afoko clarified that the decision taken against Okudzeto was a purely administrative decision which was taken by the party’s steering committee.

The action taken against Okudzeto angered some party members and when the leadership attempted to address the issue, it led to some clashes at the NPP headquarters in Accra.

But in a swift response, Mr. Agyepong clarified that on no occasion was the matter referred to the Steering Committee, National Executive Committee or National Council.

He added that the “publication of this unsolicited opinion on a purely administrative matter is improper, an anomaly and a gross abuse of due process in our party.”

The attention of the National Headquarters of the NPP has been drawn to a report from the chairman of the Constitutional and Legal Committee making rounds in the media and wish to state emphatically as follows;

1. Neither the Steering Committee, National Executive Committee nor National Council has referred the matter at issue to the constitutional and legal committee.

2. In good faith and in accordance with Article 9B (5) of the NPP constitution, any report of any standing committee should duly be submitted to the Steering Committee for consideration. This was not the case.

3. Assuming without admitting that the matter was even referred to the constitutional and legal committee, they could only proffer an opinion for consideration. That opinion can only be advisory and not mandatory.

4. Publication of this unsolicited opinion on a purely administrative matter, is improper, an anomaly and a gross abuse of due process in our party.

We urge all to disregard the said publication with all the contempt it deserves.

KWABENA AGYEI AGYEPONG

GENERAL SECRETARY, NPP
