The National Peace Council has appealed to District and Municipal assemblies to focus on conflict areas and develop strategies to address and promote peace in those areas.

Mr Francis Azuimi, the Executive Secretary of the NPC, said maintaining peace in the country depends on the commitment of all Ghanaians.

The Executive Secretary made this known in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Tamale where journalists from the the Northern Upper East and Upper West regions were trained on conflict reporting.

He said the NPC would not renege on its mandate and added that his outfit had mapped out conflict areas to enhance national peace.

Mr Azuimi appealed to all Metropolitan, Municipal and District assemblies to get copies of the mapped out conflicts areas and to help address some of the conflicts in affected areas.

He said the success of each assembly depended on how the development planning of each district would inclusively engage all to resolve conflicts to promote peace and national unity.

Mr Azuimi urged all regional boards of the NPC to work in conjunction with the Regional Coordinating Council to ensure there was peace in the regions.

On the essence of the training, the executive secretary said the NPC emphasized core journalistic competence on conflict reporting in the three regions to ensure that more professional reporting was done as the Northern Region had high incidence of conflict.
