A former national chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Samuel Odoi Sykes has charged the party to unite or risk losing the 2016 elections.

He said disunity caused the party in lose in previous national elections.

According to him, if the party unites to form a formidable force, with the right resources, the NPP will be able to wrestle power from the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC).

The former party chairman noted that government has the needed resources “and you can’t easily win against such a person if you are divided.”

He pointed out that the greatest challenge for the NPP is achieving unity saying, “that is the biggest problem we have; to unite.”

The NPP on Sunday organized a super delegates’ congress to prune down the number of presidential candidate aspirants from seven to five.

Two contenders, Stephen Asamoah Boateng and Dr. Konadu Apraku were eliminated from the race.

Odoi Sykes, who is considered as one of the most successful NPP Chairmen said the leadership of the NPP must take urgent steps to bring back into the fold, candidates who crashed out of the competition.

“Those who will be disappointed, who will be disaffected and those who will be aggrieved, you must take time to find ways of speaking to them so that they forget the past and join whoever wins to help with the battle ahead,” he counseled.

A founding father of the NPP, H.O Lamptey also told Citi News, it is his duty as an elder in the party to ensure the NPP succeeds.

“We succeeded in previous elections we were robbed in 2012,” he alleged, adding that, the NPP “must be united because we belong to one family.”

“After the struggle, whoever emerges as our flagbearer needs our support, our fullest support, our unflinching support and that is what I am praying for,” he added.
