The 2012 Presidential Candidate for the New Patriotic Party(NPP), Nana Akufo-Addo has promised to work hard for a united NPP that will beat all opponents in the 2016 elections.
“I, myself, reemphasize my commitment to working for a united NPP, focused on a common opponent whom we must beat convincingly in the 2016 elections. Our nation must be put back again on the path to prosperity,” he said.
The two time presidential candidate noted that though the work ahead will be arduous, he will answer the call of the Ghanaians for a new beginning.
“The youth and people of our country need jobs, good education, quality healthcare, decent housing and an enhanced standard of living. Without running ahead of myself, I can say that an NPP government under my leadership will make these things a reality,” he said
Addressing a gathering on results of the NPP Special Delegates Congress, Nana Addo said “together, we can rally the Ghanaian people to regain confidence in our future. To believe in the bright horizon and compelling prospects that await the Black Star of Africa. To be convinced that, with purposeful leadership, we can claim our rightful position in the affairs of Africa and of the World.
Nana Addo won 81.28 percent of votes cast at the delegates congress held to prune the number of candidates seeking to lead the 2016 general elections.
His closest contender, Alan Kyerematen secured a lowly 8.01 percent of the votes cast.
Some have described Nana Addo’s lead in this race as an indicator of what will happen in the October 18 congress.
Nana Addo, Alan Kyerematen will be joined by Francis Addai Nimoh, Joe Ghartey and Kofi Osei Ameyaw for the October contest.
Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and Stephen Asamoah Boateng have been dropped from the race.
Out of 741 ballots cast, Nana Akufo-Addo polled 598 votes representing 81.28 percent of the total votes cast , Alan Kyerematen obtained 59 votes representing 8.01 percent, Addai Nimoh, the MP for Asante Mampong polled 22 votes representing 2.85 percent, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Joe Ghartey polled 22 votes representing 2.85 and Kofi Osei Ameyaw MP for Asuogyaman had 17 votes representing 1.90 percent.
The Congress was aimed at selecting five candidates for the party’s flagbearer race in October.
